- Description: Myrtle Beach State Park is 312 acres and consists of 1-mile of beachfront with a maritime forest. The Interpretive/Nature Center Staff at Myrtle Beach State Park takes weekly samples from the park's 728 foot fishing pier. In addition to collecting the plankton samples, the staff has developed a plankton program and created various "phytoplankton costumes" to help teach about the common phytoplankton that are caught off the pier. Kids love dressing up and it has turned into a great opportunity to teach about the importance of plankton!
Engaging and educational programs for the general public are offered year round to raise visitor awareness about the natural resources of the park and to increase visitor knowledge on how they can have a positive impact on our natural resources for future generations. The park also offers curriculum related "Discover Carolina" school field trips. The park's nature center offers saltwater aquariums, live reptiles and interactive natural history displays to help visitors understand the significance of the park. A backyard habitat complete with bird feeders, bird houses, butterfly garden, bird baths and nature sculpture is available for viewing when the center is not open.
