Performing A Basic Search
The basic search will allow you to query the database of contaminants found within
a certain study area and relevant information related to each item. You
can search by:
- CAS number,
- Molecular formula, or
- The name of contaminant.
The only study areas currently available are the St. Johns River Water Management
District and the lower Columbia River watershed.
To search, choose an option for which you would like to 'search by' from the drop
down list. Then, enter the identifying item for which you would like to search.
(For example, if you chose to search by CAS
Number, entering a Molecular Formula will not return valid results). Choose
Submit.
Search results will change to a fact sheet format on print.
Boolean wildcards and truncation allow you to easily combine or eliminate search
words, making your search simpler:
- A percent sign % will match zero or more characters in that position (for example:
"%sodium" would find items such as "Metham sodium", "Methamsodium", and so forth).
- An underscore (_) will match one character at that position anywhere in a word (for
example: "Me_harpinia" would find "Metharpinia").
Performing a Detailed Search
This search component will allow you to view relational information for smaller areas
in the study area. Choose the type of information you would like to retreive
from the categories listed:
- Agricultural pesticide use (Florida only)
- Geographical information (Florida only)
- Toxicity information
After choosing from a category above, narrow your search by various criteria.
A column with a yellow background suggests that you can click on the item/number
listed for more information. Some data in columns will be displayed as hyperlinks,
allowing you to find more detail on the record.
