The ArcView
and ArcExplorer
project files available for download
from this site may be supplemented with additional data available from the EPA.
ArcView Users
The
Basins software application can be downloaded and installed on a
PC that meets the hardware and software requirements (note that ArcView 3.1 or 3.2 must
already be installed on your computer to use the Basins software). Integrating
such data on point and non-point sources of pollution with the data collected through
the various sampling programs represented in the GCAP inventory addresses one of
the main goals of GCAP (i.e. to investigate the extent to which land-based sources
of pollutants and other materials are transported through major river systems to
offshore shelf environments).
ArcExplorer Users
For those users who do not have ArcView, it is still possible to add Basins data
to the ArcExplorer project available on this site. The steps to accomplishing this
are as follows:
- Download and install the free ArcExplorer application from ESRI,
- Download the ArcExplorer
project files from this site and unzip to a directory on your PC,
- Download
spatial data* from the Basins web site and unzip the contents,
- Start ArcExplorer and open the project you downloaded in step 2 (gcap.aep),
- Add desired GIS layers (Theme/Add Theme) from the data you downloaded in step 3.
* The Basins data are arranged by
HUC. For the Georgia coast, the relevant HUCs are
03060204 and
03070106.
Most of the spatial data of interest can be found in the 'core' data files.
The 'pcs3' files contain Permit Compliance System data. The types of
data available are described in the Basins
User Manual, Section 2.
