Habitat Suitability Modeling

Habitat Suitability Modeling Program

The CBIEA will ultimately be a comprehensive assessment of key ecosystem components and processes in the Chesapeake Bay. This will be achieved by using the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) data bases and other existing literature to map and assess benthic and pelagic habitats, water quality, species’ distribution and habitat requirements, and determine the strength of coupling between habitats and living marine resources.

Pathogen Monitoring Program

The health of our Coastal waters and living resources is of great importance to our Nation’s economy in terms of recreational and commercial pursuits. It is estimated that 60% of the Nations population live within our coastal counties (UN Ocean Atlas). The primary goal of this effort is to understand how our activities on land influence the abundance and virulence of marine microbial pathogens.
